A monographic exhibition of Gauguin’s work has not been seen in a London gallery since 1955. The ‘Gauguin’ exhibition opening at Tate Modern on 30th September 2010 - 16th January 2011 invites audiences to come afresh to this abidingly popular, but complex and difficult artist, posing some new questions. Belinda Thomson MA, the curator of the exhibition, will talk about the artist and the importance of narrative strategies in his work, together the planning and organisational challenges of curating this major international exhibition in London.
Belinda Thomson, MA London; Honorary Fellow, Art History, University of Edinburgh, freelance art historian is the author of books on Gauguin, Vuillard and Van Gogh, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. She lectures for NADFAS and in galleries in the UK and abroad and has curated exhibitions on Patrick Geddes and Gauguin for the National Gallery of Scotland.
