About the LSA Student Award

The award is open to students in full or part time education at a college or university in Leicestershire, studying a foundation course or degree course in any art or design discipline.

The main prize for the winning work is £400, sponsored by West End Gallery and will also frame the winning work.

Two runners up will also win £100 each, sponsored by Leicester Society of Artists. The winning works will be included in the LSA Annual Exhibition 2016 (30 September - 29 October 2016) at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery Leicester. 

West End Gallery will provide exhibition space in the gallery in 2017 for the winner and 2 runners up .

Creative Leicestershire will provide one-to-one business and funding advice for the winner and two runners up.

Applications for the award have now closed: the deadline for applications and uploaded images was midnight on Friday 29 July 2016.

The shortlisted students were announced here on Tuesday 2 August 2016.

What you may submit

2d works: unframed work may be submitted to the award but must conform to the following when framed for exhibition: W:200cms x H: 200cm.  We cannot accept video or film this year, as we are not able to show this in our exhibition.

3d works: there are no size restrictions for free-standing 3d works, but sharp or unstable works will be excluded on grounds of health safety and electric works (other than battery powered) are not accepted.  Works that will be exhibited in cased plinths (eg. fragile works), must conform to the following maximum dimensions: W:50cm x D:50cm x H:100cm.

How to apply for the award - 3 steps

1.  Submit the form.
2.  Receive an email with a unique reference number.
3. Upload photos of your work by midnight on Friday 29 July 2016.  Use the link on the email, and enter your unique reference number + email address. Each image should be no bigger than 3MB. Your digital photographs should be a minimum of 1500 pixels width / 1500 pixels height.

Digital photographs will be submitted online for the first round of the selection process. We ask for a short artist’s statement for publicity purposes.

The deadline for applying for the award and digital images to be received is midnight 29 July 2016.

Once you have uploaded your photos, they cannot be changed.

About the entry process

Apply using the application form above to enter the Student Award 2016, then upload images of your artwork by midnight 29 July 2016. Please note that each image should be no bigger than 3MB to successfully upload. You will receive an email from us, confirming your application which provides your unique reference number and a link to your profile, where you can view and upload your images and personal statement.

A shortlist of works will be chosen in the first round by our selection committee on 1 August to go forward to round two of judging.  The list of shortlisted students will be announced on this website on Tuesday 2 August 2016.

The shortlisted student must deliver their original works to West End Gallery (107 Highcross Street, Leicester LE1 4PH) between Thursday 25 - Saturday 27 August 2016.  Round 2 judging by the selection committee will take place on 30 August 2016.

The final winner and two runners-up will be announced on the LSA website on Thursday 1 September 2016. West End Gallery will cover the cost of framing the main winner's work, in collaboration with the winning student.
